@mbgroom3 Welcome to Connect. I'm not sure if your response was for me, but I did take care of my dad while I was suffering from an unoperated (at the time) cervical spine problem.
You don't have to agree to a steroid shot. They can help, but some patients have adverse reactions to them, and I was one of those. Caregiving is hard exhausting work and even harder when you are struggling with pain or weakness from a spine condition. Are you considering spine surgery? Is there someone else who can help care for your mother? I realize there may be financial issues involved. If you do go through sine surgery, you will need help. You won't be able to lift much weight at all, and you would be exhausted in just trying to heal yourself.
What is it that scares you the most? A shot in your spine or the situation you are in now?
