Has anyone had platelet rich plasma injections? This would be probably for bursitis and tendonitis due to partial hip replacement 4 years ago. I am going for a consult next week. Thanks.

Hi helenrose, PRP injections have been part of my life for the last three years, all for a knee that has had arthroscopic surgery. Personally, I believe platelet rich plasma is the way of the future, in terms of replacing other injectable agents. (PRP is not covered by insurance for me) I know that after receiving PRP, which followed my gel injections to my knee, my pain or any discomfort left, completely. I now maintain with gel, followed by PRP every six to eight months.
Best,

Thanks. That is encouraging. I have a consult next week and need to see how much it will cost. I think $800. And that might have changed.

I had three at UC Davis in 3013 for Achilles tendonitis which nothing had helped. It cured it and I haven't had it since. I have had one in my ankle also and it helped too.

usual fee is $800- 1500 per injectiondepending on institution

I’d like to hear from patients who used this modality for elbow pain. Thanks.

Hi @helenrose,

I combined your discussion with the following discussion:

While it is a lengthy discussion, you can read through many members' experiences and they will also see yours as well.

@helenrose, are you experiencing pain with your bursitis and looking to get some relief with PRP vs. surgical options?
