Question: Has stints been used in the urinary tract to expand, improve/eliminate urinary blockage? If not why not?

Not a doctor but it seems to me it would depend on the location of the blockage. If you stent the urethra through the urethral sphincter, you may as well use a foley and a bag since you are going to evacuate the bladder constantly. Stents are used in other locations in the urinary tract.
Hi @littlebitmore, I agree with @mjp0512 that the use of stents depends on where the blockage is. Ureteral stents can be used to relieve upper urinary tract blockages.
Have you consulted with your urologist about where the blockage is and how to relieve it?
This paper indicated that stents are commonly used to treat urinary tract blockages —> https://healthy.kaiserpermanente.org/health-wellness/health-encyclopedia/he.learning-about-ureteral-stents.abs2493?,to%20have%20the%20stent%20replaced.

Luckily, I was treated with fulguration – which is basically a heated wire being passed through the stricture to clear the blockage. Don’t know if they use lasers for this because while lasers do cut away excess tissue they also cause new tissue to grow excessively so it’s kind of a catch 22..
There is also a surgical procedure, which is quite complicated and requires you to wear a super pubic catheter for a few months while the bladder and urethra heal.
I would find the best reconstructive urologic surgeon and arrange a consult.

My sister had ureteral [not urethral] stents place before lower Gi surgery. It was a preventive procedure to avoid
knicks that would cause a lot of trouble.
