shoulder pain

Posted by piabob @piabob, Dec 5, 2025

I dislocated my shoulder about 50 yrs ago (football). I have been examined by three different orthos and all have recommended reverse replacement of the joint. So far I’ve taken several cortisone shots that have helped. But I’ve just read about iovera (cold therapy). Wondering if others like me have tried it, and good or bad outcomes?

There’s an old saying about a thousand people telling you one thing but you go and do something totally opposite. I’m guessing you’re scarred of the surgery and the recovery which I understand to be lengthy. It seems you’ve gotten both 2nd and 3rd opinions with the same outcome. You might now consider seeing a therapist to find out what’s holding you back from getting well. Just an opinion from a retired nurse.

This is for above person considering reverse shoulder replacement on one shoulder. Compared to knee replacement rehab it was a breeze and pain at a very low level. I had a great doctor who I know well and he did a great job. You just have to have a great physical therapist lined up. The first week is kind of hard sleeping in a recliner or order cushions on line for post shoulder replacement. Good luck. Also, get the gel shoulder wraparound from Amazon-it’s best for the icing time. Good luck.
