PSA score now 0.1 post surgery/radiation/chemo: Now what?

Posted by sydneyp66 @sydneyp66, Dec 4 12:03pm

In July 2022 I had surgery to remove what was thought to be a small part of my prostate- turned out 47% was cancerous and they took most of the prostate. The cells had permeated the membrane.

I started Lupron/Ameraderone in the fall and took 33 sessions of targeted radiation in jan/Feb 2023.

Stayed on oral meds through 10/31/24. My PSA was less than .1 for the last couple years
Yesterday it came back at .1

Anyone else?

I just turned 71.

I will get retested in two weeks, still pretty stressed. I was hopeful this was over.

3 1/2 years after I had prostate cancer surgery my PSA started rising when they hit .2 they gave me salvage radiation. You may be in the same boat, you have to watch your PSA and see what’s going on. I had surgery at 62.

I do have BRCA2 a genetic problem that causes my PSA to keep rising and i have had four reoccurrences over the last 16 years.

Have you had genetic testing? Everyone with prostate cancer should be tested.

You can live decades with what you’ve got so don’t be panicked.

@jeffmarc I am in a similar situation as you were, I am at 3 years and have a PSA of .15. I am going to have 5 weeks of radiation in the pelvic region. I am waiting for my decipher information to determine if I should get ADT. I also took the Psma pet scan yesterday, awaiting results which I am aware may not pick up anything at this low of a PSA. I had a genetic test three weeks ago and am awaiting the results. I expect all of these results will be in by the time I meet my oncologist next Friday.

My understanding is if you leave part of your prostate in it can produce PSA. With me with the prostate completely removed it went to < .02 for two years and then started up. If it is cancer causing it you can get radiation again but without the prostate completely removed you can not say a low PSA of .1 is abnormal. Discuss it with your Dr. wishing you the best

@sydneyp66, I see you are returning for testing in a couple of days and you were feeling quite stressed. How are you doing?
