Discontinuation of Mounjaro
I have been doing excellent on Mounjaro. When I began my A1C was 10.8 and now has dropped to 5.4 after being on it for a year. I also have heart issues and ckd. This year I am having to change insurance due to mine leaving our state. There are only two plans available for my area and doctors. Unfortunately upon research I have learned that I will be dropped from Mounjaro because the a1c of 5.4 is no longer considered diabetic. So, praise God that is much better. Now, I am terrified that the a1c will skyrocket again when it's discontinued in January. I am also concerned that the 25 pounds I lost will return. Is there any way to keep the a1c under control and the weight off when this is stopped? Previously I was on Metformin, Jardiance, Insulin and Glipizide before starting Mounjaro. Any advice from anyone?

Hello. I understand your concerns. It might help to remind you that this class of medication like mounjaro, ozempic are designed to help you loose the weight in conjunction with a lifestyle change and this includes adopting healthier eating habits, which I suspect you have adopted. So do not worry too much about gaining your weight back; just follow your current eating and exercise habits and your body will do the rest. The human body has been designed to prefer foods and habits that are good for you. This is why I’m almost sure you will stick with your present diet and exercise routine. I would watch out for your mental health and spiritual growth. Godspeed to you.

2 ReactionsThank you for your post and encouragement. You are correct in that I eat extremely healthy and stick to a renal diet since I have ckd (chronic kidney disease.) I will be sticking to that like gorilla glue. 🙂 Thank you for letting me know to watch out for my mental health and spiritual growth. That is always extremely high for me also and your reminders about it were spot on. Thank you. I have been setting up a journal today to track all the required information. 2 ReactionsI really resent it when I have to take insurance into consideration regarding medications &/or treatments. However they do hold the purse strings so I guess it is reasonable. I have been in your situation before. There are work arounds. Your provider may be able to recommend an alternative medication that is covered by your insurance. If all else fails your provider can ask for an exception. They vouch for you and provide documentation showing why a medication is necessary for you and others don’t work. Could you try this? It doesn’t hurt to ask.
You are right. My doctor is appealing the decision to discontinue my Mounjaro. They have also discontinued my insulin, sensors and Jardiance along with it. The Review board is saying that it will take anywhere from about 2-6 months on average for it to be reviewed and hopefully approved. Until then, they tell me to watch my diet and do my best. My next Endo appointment is the second week of March and then she said she will discuss what to do next in way of meds and if there is anything that will help at this point. Thanks for your response.
