My surgery was 5 weeks tomorrow and over the past couple of days the pain and what I call "zingers" are really bad. If I have to cough....oh my goodness, it hurts. Taking gabapentin for the first time since I left the hospital. I have a list (of course I found it online and shouldn't believe everything online) but it has hit it spot on as to what happens when. Don't know about ya'll but I don't have very good access to my surgeon or oncologist. I have to MyChart them if I have a question and they take days to get back to me. So I had to go elsewhere for answers. Hope the gabapentin helps your husband....honestly it hasn't helped me much.

@rcerwin3 I've had 3 lung surgeries and I found the best thing to help me was having a cushion with me at all times to hug when I coughed or sneezed...which was often. It helps to stop the strain on the ribcage, hope this helps .

@rcerwin3 Try going to a pain management Dr. they increased the Gabapentin it seems to be working better. 300mgs 3x a day plus a patch which is Buprenorphine.
Stays on 7 days. It really has helped.
We haven’t talked to our surgeon but he has a wonderful staff of Nurse practitioners that steered us to the pain Dr.
the hospital gave us a pillow shaped like a lung it does help hugging it when he’s coughing.
I’m giving Delsym cough medicine for the cough it’s helping that too.
Wishing you all the best.
