@SusanEllen66 I worked in the plant where F-35s are assembled (the building is a mile long). Every day on my way to & from my workplace, I'd walk between jets in Final Assembly.
I would often see F-16s and F-35s being "test driven"; a very impressive sight. And as for the noise ... as they say, that's the sound of freedom.

@scottrl I used to live in NY several miles from Grumman Aerospace.
My husband at the time, was a Civilian employee of the Navy, a Senior Quality Control Engineer.
He inspected the F-14, and E2C.

One day he found a problem with the “windshield” on an F-14, and grounded the fleet worldwide.
Needless to say, people were not happy with his decision. But, that was his job!

The jets were tested out on the end of Long Island. However, the E2C went over our neighborhood. That plane had its own weird noise. I’m assuming it was from the radar.
