K2 supplements mk4 or mk7 or combination?
As usual, in researching osteoporosis topics I find conflicting and contradictory info and never fully make a decision on approaches. I understand the differences between the two types of k2 supplements but does anyone feel confident in choosing one over the other or do you buy both and alternate days with each? And when to take them (with d3 or at least 3 hours after ) is another topic with conflicting studies!

I doubt if any physicians would give any stars to books on osteoporosis treatment with K2. They would be prescribing bisphosphonates, etc... as my Dr. does. I don't follow that advice as I don't want disintegrating jawbone, femur snapping, etc... awful side effects that result in poor quality bone.

1 ReactionI am on a difficult drug (benzodiazapine-klonopin) which clashes with nutrients important for bone--calcium, Vitamin D, so is a big challenge to get enough D especially. Terrible anxiety with even a small amount. Sunlight is best, but now it is winter....It has probably contributed to my osteoporosis as benzos interfere with Vitamin D metabolization. Luckily, I can take vitamin K7 and K2 which I am going to try to increase. Am searching here for best brand.
I take Innovixlabs Full Spectrum K, which has both. I honestly don't recall where I learned that one needs both. Sorry I can't be helpful with that! The single capsule has both. I try to take it apart from other fat soluble vitamins like D and A. In the Dental Diet, Dentist Steven Lin mentions K, D, and A are necessary to get the calcium to the right place –your bones, not your brain, joints, or heart. I take the single capsule of Innovix K Spectrum with dinner. D and magnesium after lunch. I just read better absorption if you take those after food. I did start taking A by itself in the morning, but I'm starting to focus on kidney health, and A might not be good for kidneys, or depending on how much. After I see a nephrologist, I will hopefully have more info about A, since it is one of the 3 vitamins Lin says is necessary for bones.

1 ReactionI only last week learned about the K4 Apparently you have to take a lot of it and more frequently than 7 because it leaves body BUT - study in Asia is looking into whether it alone builds bone. So I am thinking of doing my own little study, taking the K7 for overall but maybe adding a K4 once a day (it supposedly works for 6 hours) to get that extra bone building boost

1 ReactionWas on Reclast for 2 yrs and dr. switched me to Fosomax.
Considering taking a calcium /magnesium /zinc supplement. I heard that magnesium can interfere with biphosphanates like Fosomax, anyone heard of this?
@lamd Costco has Nature's Bounty Magnesium Glycinate. They also have Nature Made gummies for those people having difficulty with swallowing large pills.
Hi @llthomson
Thanks for the update. I did settle on a magnesium glycinate a while ago. I take pure encapsulations magnesium glycinate 120 mg each evening. In addition, I am currently taking 2 osteosustain (Dr McCormick) which contain a total of 200 mg of mag daily. I flip flop between osteosustain and Thorne advanced bone support, as I like that Thorne has B12, although no K. Also taking 2 osteostim, which I find generally helpful. I have one more year before next Dexa. I slowed down on exercise lately, due to hurting my arm at the gym. I really need to find some momentum. Winter weather not helping on that front.
@annieb31 on the contrary, you need magnesium when taking bisphosphonates as they raise your calcium serum blood levels and can cause an imbalance in your electrolytes as your magnesium will get used up trying to balance the high calcium levels. This happened to me on Alendronate (Fosomax) and gave me heart arrhythmia . The doctor admitted the imbalance and that some people are more sensitive to the imbalance than others. Magnesium is part of your bone matrix so you don’t want a shortage as your body will take it from storage places like your bones to correct the imbalance. So yes, do take your magnesium along with the other bone building minerals.
