Anyone had Gentle Wave procedure for root canal? Tips?
one tooth is compromised , there are two options
to safe the tooth, one is to use a "gentle wave" procedure, it is supposed to be less invasive than a regular root canal treatment,' treatment is done in one appointment, the normal root canal procedure requires 2 visits,
has anyone had a " gentle wave " procedure, and how was your experience?

Answers to some of your questions:
Have not as yet seen an endodontist for consultation - they are on vacation! Gentle Wave word is metioned on the site but do not know if they are authorized?? No reviews or testimonials for this procedure listed?? Dentist only told me I needed a root canal or extraction. I am trying to do my own homework - not easy.
as your dentist suggested you need a consultation with an endodontist to assess all the option, extraction or treatment, if you live in an area where there are choices, compare the information on their websites,
yes, it takes some effort to do research, look online for all the info on the practice, call the office for more details, check if this endodontist accepts your dental insurance, make yourself a chart reflecting all the info you collected to help your decision-
Thankyou!
It has been at least 8 years since I last had a root canal and I had one, possibly two prior to that. I would prefer them over a filling any day of the week.
Can this process be used for retreatment of a failed root canal?

1 Reaction@sallys: it depends, you have to see an endodontist, he/she will do an xray and evaluate the tooth, prepare yourself with questions for the dentist, learn online more about root canal procedure and gentle wave, many endodontists advertise with their expertise and explain,
in some cases a previously treated tooth can not be saved and an extraction needs to happen
I recently underwent a Gentle Wave procedure. Here's the background info. I went to a new dentist for the first time for a regular cleaning and he told me that one of my molars had issues, even though I felt no pain at all. His associate also looked at the x rays and told me in no uncertain terms that the tooth would have to be extracted. He said that this was a no doubt case of necessary extraction and that 10 out of 10 dentists would come to the same conclusion. Not convinced, I decided to see my wife's dentist who recommended an endodontist for a second opinion. Unbeknownst to me, this recommended endodontist used GW for his root canals (as it turns out, I looked it up and there are only two in the entire city who offer GW) and at looking at the x-rays said that he thought GW could help here. He said he would open up the tooth and upon visual examination if he thought that the GW would he fruitless he would stop the procedure and discuss extraction instead. Anyway, he completed the procedure ( about an hour) and now I have a follow up next week. After that if all goes well I will have to go to a regular dentist for a permanent crown. The endodontist said that there a greater than an 80 percent chance that the procedure will be successful. I can tell you that I felt absolutely zero pain after the Novocain wore off and was eating normally before the end of the day. The cost (after insurance) was about $100 more than the quoted cost for the extraction given by the office if the first dentist. I will also have to pay additional for the crown, but then again I won't have to do an implant if I had had an extraction.
@jwinlv Welcome to Connect and thanks for sharing your experience with the New Wave technique for root canal treatment. Good for you! Your story shows the value of ‘following your gut’ and getting an opinion for your tooth and possible extraction. Being able to keep your own tooth is generally the healthiest option long term. Will you be returning to your new dentist or seeking care at your wife’s dentist for the crown?
@loribmt- in one of my previous postings, I noticed spelling mistakes, the edit option is not available anymore, are there other ways to correct a posting?
Hi @charlotte12 The edit option is available for 2 hours after we post a reply. Once the option closed we can’t edit ourselves, but it’s still super easy to have an edit done for you.
Use the same three dots … in the lower right corner.
Click: Report Comment. A new box will open up where you can let a moderator know what changes you’d like to make.
A little tip. Once you open that new box you won’t be able to see the original rely than needs editing. So, when I need to do that, I copy and paste my reply in the box, then make the edit comments from there to show where a word correction is needed or rephrasing, whatever you’d like.
Give it a try and let me know if it doesn’t work out for you.
