How easy is the process for a service dog?

I don’t have a service dog but I’m a working dog (military/LE/special purpose) trainer.
I’m not a “service” dog trainer per se but I have a friend in Portland Oregon that is.

I don’t need (at this time, thankfully) a service dog, but I do give to several organizations which claim to train them for people. I would be interested in hearing anything that you would be comfortable sharing about the training and supply processes. Thanks. M.
