Neuropathy and leg cramps
I have burning and tingling in my feet which has gotten steadily worse over the years. I mostly notice it at night after getting into bed. Some nights they are on fire, other nights it's not too bad. I have never been to a neurologist. But I also suffer, and I mean suffer, from nocturnal leg cramps. The PN website notes muscle cramps/twitching as a symptom of neuropathy. Does anyone else experience leg cramps along with the neuropathy? I am desperate for a solution as I have tried many things. Magnesium at bedtime; epsom salt soak; magnesium oil with massage; stretching; exercising/not exercising; nervive; capsacin creams. Nothing always works, so I don't know what actually can work; perhaps I haven't found the right combination?
I do take 30mg of amitriptyline every night for the neuropathy. Perhaps I need to check with my DCP about upping the dose?
Thank you for any help you can give!

@trishdub I've been taking fairly large doses of R-ALA (and before that, ALA) for quite a while. Unfortunately, I still have leg cramps at night.
@persistentc
That must be so discouraging for you since others report success. I have two close friends who say it was a game changer for them. I guess it really depends on the cause of the cramping. I hope you will be persistent in your quest for answers! Happy Thanksgiving!
I also have tried most of your items mentioned. What helps me the most is using a large heating pad around my feet and calves at highest geat setting,then turn down the setting to low right before sleep. Therawork helps also.
Hope these suggestions help?

Adductor cramps are the real tear jerkers for me.
I have the exact symptoms as you and nothing worked until I started wearing compression socks during the day. Now no night cramps!!! (tho i still have foot neuropathy, but not as severe).

1 ReactionI also have neuropathy in my feet, a GYN suggested to me to take coQ10 for occasional bouts of calf cramps that would wake me up at night in terrible pain. I had been using magnesium, vitamin D, potassium. I tried it and it helped!
I’m sure the cause will determine what works best, wishing you relief from your pain soon!

I was on my feet for hours on Thursday serving meals. WITH compression socks. I did my normal stretching before bed. No leg cramps!! Friday I wore them again while on my feet for a while. I had a little cramping as I was waking up this morning. I’m getting ready to put them on as I’ll be on my feet for a bit. We shall see! I’m very hopeful.
Thanks for sharing. I’m very happy for you!
@ga29
A friend recommended coQ10 to me as well. I had decided to try ALA already, which is a good antioxidant even if it doesn’t help with cramps, although two friends said it helped them. Also, see my above post about compression socks.
Sometimes walking off is sooooo painful. Peas that's interesting. So the
"cold" helps you? I'll have to try that bit I have frozen corn. Haha. Life
is funny!
