Please let me how morphine worked for you. Need advice

Posted by abbybarnes @abbybarnes, Nov 16 6:45pm

J have Erythromelalgia- Man on Fire Syndrome. I have been taking 250 mgs of Tramadol for more than 10 years now without numb benefit.

Can you please let me know how morphine works for you and what dose you take and how much you had to beg your doctor to prescribe it? Thank you so much for your advice!

I find these responses fascinating in their variety. I am in the population who cannot take synthetic narcotics and would prefer to writhe in pain than take one. My instructions to surgeons - since post surgical pain is when it would apply - is to give me morphine one night and then I will go without anything - but under no circumstances do I want synthetic narcotics.

@pb50
May I ask why? Would you okay the use of Kratom, e.g., for pain relief?

REPLY

Morphine has no effect on me whatsoever.
Everyone is different.
Norco works pretty well for me.
Like I said-we are all different
I was fortunate to find a great, understanding and compassionate pain doctor. I doubt he would have been okay with taking too much medicine. I have always taken the prescribed dose. Good luck and hope you get the relief you need.

@jackiet, synthetic opiods make me violently ill.

As far as Kratom goes, I lived through the 70’s without killing myself and see no reason to take that risk now 🙂

@staab4 Hello-in 40 years of being prescribed opiates post surgery-morphine never caused hallucinations.
In fact, from experience, I am guessing your surgeon could very well have included ketamine which is a dissociative anaesthetic and (in my case) while I was in the ICU, caused giant transparent visions of Nazi troops led by an enormous Shoe which tapped its way down the street. This was amusing. However, no morphine was used in my ICU care.
Like other readers here, I prefer oxycodone (which is Percocet without Tylenol.) No hallucinations whatsoever. A time release 12-hour version is called Xtampza. I find this one also has zero side effects.
Good Luck! I would ask your dr if he used ketamine on you.

@ardeecor : My Doctor will only give me Fentanyl Patches. I have CRPS in both feet and works well. To add to it I take THC gummies for pain too. I use different ones for daytime and another for night to help sleep. I love them rather then ALL the other opiates I was on. Quality of life is much better then sleeping most of my day not to be in pain!! Enjoy Turkey Day if you can. Gentle hugs

@rmshackelton hello! I wish my de would give me duragesic patches for my lower back and neck.
But living in California-the docs here are very strict. E.G. one of my pain drs kicked me out because I had thc in my system from edibles. Truthfully, thc did not help with pain, nor did I get high from it.
I do not smoke, vape, or drink alcohol (which I am severely allergic to.
Opiates from percocet on up are what help.
Years ago I used to get 100 vicodin a month for migraine headaches. But nowadays if someone catches you with that much, they would ask me “are you dealing?”
Me: “Hell no, I don’t share!”
Have a happy Thanksgiving!

@ardeecor: I know what you mean. I was put on Fentanyl 14 years ago and if I tried to start now they would NEVER give it to me. But I am addicted and doctor has no chance of getting me off. In California they do not sell the gummies I use for pain but see if you can find one with RSO in it. Not Rick Simpson Oil!! That is the part of the gummie that helps pain and I am so glad they have them in NJ!! Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

@pb50 Can't accurately answer as my morphine used for pain maintenance limiting. Now at 2 pills per day. Help is marginal and supplement with Ex Tylenol as required, Diclofenac ointment 2-4 x day Ibruprofin alt with XSTyenol. Do not think application comparable to short time use.

The only thing that works for me is Percocet. When there was the whole opioid crisis, I had to use the oxycodone plus Tylenol, which is what Percocet is. Nothing else works for pain management for me. They have tried everything on me. When I’m in the hospital, they use the Percocet plus the Demerol for surgery. How might you get it? The word I always use is “suffering“ and I say I am suffering you can’t let me suffer. What are you going to do about it?

@loriesco I’m with you on the Percocet- course they think you’re a drug addict but it works, and I could care less what the dr thinks. Got to go to hospital sometime because that’s not enough but with stage 4 lung cancer and stage four prostate cancer that’s got into the bone- well I think you get my drift

@chebo1954 I am sorry for the lung cancer and prostate... but don't give up hope. I know two different people who survived one of each stage 4!!! My doc is very supportive. The hospital is always a crap shoot depending on which hospital and depending on the current state of each (politically speaking). To your good health, and bone pain is probably the worst kind of pain so I am sorry to that. Stay comfortable!
