Pneumonectomy with metastatic breast cancer

Posted by kahe @kahe, Nov 11 1:03pm

Hello all

I have metastatic breast cancer, in right lung only, (cancer markers low normal). My question is if anyone in my situation , (or similar) has had a pneumonectomy..... or knows of anyone who has had a pneumonectomy?

Thank you
Kahe

@kahe, I added your question about pneumonectomy and what it is like to the Lung Cancer support group. I realize that you do not have primary lung cancer, but rather breast cancer that has spread to the lung. I'm confident that members like @sonshine161 will have more to share with you. Read her journey here:

Kahe, have you been scheduled for surgery?

Hi Colleen,

Thanks so much for your reply and help, much appreciated. No I haven't been scheduled for surgery, I am simply exploring the possibility at the moment. I will certainly take a look at sonshine's account of her journey

Again, many thanks
Kahe

hi @kahe - have your doctors suggested a pneumonectomy? how extensive is the metastasis to your right lung? my dad had this surgery for lung cancer in the late 80s. but these days they usually opt for the least invasive option first: wedge resection or lobectomy - if either of those are possible. if surgery isn't possible, medication and radiation are also options.
