GERD issues
I am 22 years old. I don't smoke or drink. Growing up I can remember having a slight hoarse voice in the morning if I ate to late at nights. But never anything too miserable. It would go away within a hour after drinking water.
March 2011 on a Wednesday. I woke up with a hoarse voice that never went away. After a few weeks I started to get slightly worried so I went to my family doctor. I went 3 times over a course of 5-6 weeks and they had no idea after giving me multiple steroids and antibiotics that did nothing. I also had no pain in the beginning my throat didn't hurt at all. My only symptom was the voice. So they sent me to a throat specialist. (Audiologist) He did a throat endoscopy and told me I have GERD. He prescribed me omeprazole 20mg once a day. I changed my diet. I stopped eating hours before I went to sleep. I have never been a soda drinker, I am not a fan of fatty foods. The fattiest thing I like to eat sometimes is chocolate.. So I gave that up. I don't eat big meals. I have always been a snacker. But I didn't seem to get that much better so back as planned in 6weeks. He told me to start taking it twice a day. my throat started to hurt and become really sore around this point. I would wake up in severe pain, and it would hurt through out the day. I would take 2- 20mg omeprazole and I would also drink baking soda mixed with water whenever I couldn't handle the constant burn anymore.. I wouldn't drink the baking soda/water at the same time as taking the omeprazole. I made sure I did that hours apart from one another.
So about 10-12 weeks later my symptoms got much worse. It wasn't working. Nothing seemed to work.
So I went back to the doctor. They did another endoscopy and my throat is more swollen than the first. It's starting to swell up even higher around where my thyroid is.
I started having chest pains and it has become hard to swallow anything.
My heart rate gets insanely high in random occasions.
I feel a knock/thump whenever I swallow.
My throat is always hurting.
I am nauseous when I eat.
It's painful to eat or drink anything; I have lost almost 30lbs because of it.
So I have had a endoscopy twice now,
I got a barium swallow done and he told me I have acid reflux. probe test done,.,Blood work....How many more test need to be done?
I haven’t heard my voice in a year now. It's to the point where I am becoming depressed and I ignore talking to people. I ignore hanging out with friends, because if I talk to much my throat becomes incredibly sore to the point where I won't be able to sleep. I can't yell or whisper. I have one tone. If I yell then I’m pretty much out for the rest of the day because my throat hurts so badly.
I am thinking about going to the Mayo Clinic. Has anyone else been through this? Do you think they will be able to help? Could it be something else?
Im desperate.

How did you develop the program, quantities and amounts, of the supplements?
If you go to the link I supplied above, it lists all the dosages. I followed the digestive disorder and autoimmune lists. When they included the same supplements, I didn't double up. The instructions are quite clear and easy to follow. The only negative is that the supplements are not cheap, and one of them you can only get on his website. The rest you can purchase on Amazon. They use a soil based probiotic, and ironically the Paleo Mom recommends those as well.
@doron, do you think i should get a paleo book? And if so, which one, or just use Cris Kresser's website? I dont suppose this helped your hair did it? Im losing mine.
Judy
I have been blessed with a full head of hair, so thankfully that is one area I don't need help. Firstly, I would like to point out that it is not the Paleo Diet, but the Paleo autoimmune protocol. I never purchased a book but just google it and read the Paleo Mom's writings. If it is too difficult start with Dr. Hyman or Dr. Kresser's diets, but the diets without the supplements helped a lot but never treated my gerd. When I added the probiotics and supplements by Gerd disappeared. I can have 2 cups of coffee, alcohol and zero Gerd. Keep in mind there is also the FODMAP diet. Everyone is different, and you need to find what is right for you. Good luck.
I was also losing my hair and I have very thick hair, turns out it was my thyroid. Once I corrected my health by cutting out fruit, my thyroid went from hypothyroid to hyperthyroid which can cause hair loss. I also am on a modified Paleo diet but do not eat fruit, honey ect. It has been amazing, lower A1C, thyroid is correcting itself, no more bloating, have not taken a acid reducer since, leg cramps are gone! Just had blood work done, at 64 it's finally all perfect!!
Okay, so much for posting 6 days acid free. It came back and my suffering is back for the last 4 days, even though I haven't changed anything. Here's my question: When I am suffering... it is almost constant... 24/7. Eating is my trigger... not eating is my trigger. Some foods are worse but almost all foods are triggers. Is this heartburn if it's constant? Either I'm doing well or I'm not doing well. To all those posting, what is it if it's almost constant? Anything that helps like Chamomile tea or DGL tablets or anything only help a little and only for a short while.
@betterb4, go to er, make sure its not a HA. I just wanted a GI cocktail when i went to the er. They put pain killers in with your cocktail. Works real good. If youve taken all your esophagus meds and pain is not going away, get to the er. Judy. I would never let myself suffer for 4 days straight, not even 1. It hurts too damn much. Now go.
Are you saying that Anti acids and Proton pump inhibitors don't work for you? If that is the case, I cannot relate and don't feel qualified to answer. I was on both Zantac and Prilosec and they worked, and all food was a trigger for me when I forgot to take the pills. Since then my diet, supplements, and probiotics ensure I don't have gerd and I don't take any meds anymore.
Mine pain was constant, Was on meds since the 90's, had to keep increasing dosage and changing to stronger meds. Can never get off them because of rebound. Finally had LINX procedure and still had to take Zantac twice a day or constant burning, burping, pain and gas. I've been on Paleo for several years but it turned out to be fruit that was causing all the problems, like I said above after cutting out the fruit I've been off all meds, no pain except when I eat any fruit. I was tested for it at Mayo but was negative. Tests aren't always accurate. Try eliminating one food group at a time, it could be carbohydrate, lactose or fructose intolerance.
What is the LINX procedure? I have terrible gas bloating ulcers colon polyps and hemoroids. Am on protonix which is helping my ulcers but still have terrible stomach pains gas and bloating. Also have IBS. Considering starting FODMAP diet. Am getting desperate. Any suggestions would be very welcome. THANKYOU
