I am having numbness on my lower left lip and chin.

In the last two months I have had strange things happening. I have numbness in my lower left lip and chin. There is no pain, just numbness. In the last week I am suffering a horrible pain in my right lower back, from my waist down about 5" into my butt. There is a cord I can feel. I also feel numbness in my toes recently. I'm a 73 year old female. Any clues what could be causing this and what I should do?

Neuropathy is DEMYELINATION of nerves. Most seniors are low in B12. That's because we eat less animal protein and the stomach has less acid. Acid removes B12 from its protein cell . Then B12 goes thru intestine wall to blood stream. Then it somehow makes more myelin to recoat your nerves from brain to toes. .Best form is METHYLCOBALAMIN. mussels have 10 times as much B12 as red meat. Go for .

@jedge54 I have multifocal CIDP and have facial numbness as well. Mine is on my right side, mostly roof of mouth, lips, and cheek. Apparently my eyeball is also numb too because I don't have a corneal reflex on the right side either.

I am a "Misery loves company person". I read your post and it is like a friend knocked on my door. I have numbness on my face as well and here is how mine happened. Eight months ago I woke up with a very distinct headache. The entire top of my head to my eyebrows had pain. My very good PCP gave me a script, but pain continued creeping down my face! I put myself in the Hospital where they experimented with a new drug which caused horrible, violent body shaking. When the side effects calmed down, I left. I tried the Hospital one more time to no avail. The pain is past my chin and the side effects are severe memory loss. Doctors, MRI, CT Scan with no help whatsoever. I do not know where to go from here. Anyone else?

@fala im not quite sure how long its been now, 2 weeks maybe? Either I've gotten use to the numb feeling or its changed. My lip feels swollen even though it is not and it doesn't feel...like it belongs. Like its mine. Its weird. I cant stop biting that side of my lip to make sure its still there. Dentist says no sign of infection or anything. Dr.says no sign of neurological issues. No one can tell me anything other than there is definitely some partial paralysis. I dont know what to do.

I am going for an MRI tomorrow (Sunday appointment) to see if perhaps that might give a clue as to what is causing the numbness in my face. It started in April, and I started tracking it then. It is now November and with the this crazy feeling is numbness and memory loss. Keep track with dates, and I hope you do better than I have done. I even put myself in the Hospital as well and that was fruitless. I wish I had gone to a Neurologist right away! Best wishes, I advise you to stay on it!

I also have numbness with no pain in my left lower lip and chin. I've had it for about a year. In August of 2024 I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer and had 10 radiation treatments to my head because I had a brain tumor from the cancer. Now I'm on Verzenio and my hands shake a lot and I have neuropathy in my feet and lower legs. I've also had many bouts of sciatica in the past, but that hasn't happened for a year. I think a trip to a neurologist would be a good idea. I've had many CAT scans, PET scans X-rays and MRI's since being diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer. Verzenio has many horrible side effects, but it is definitely killing cancer cells. My blood test marker for CA27.29 started at 1698 last September, then dropped to 500 in November and my last test a couple of weeks ago was 177! Normal range is less than 39, so I'm not cancer free, but in 4 months that's very encouraging. Keep on fighting!!

@almostoutofthewoods what was your first steps to get diagnosed? I also have numbing in my lip/chin and want to get it check out.

I had that. Turned out to be infected teeth. You might want to tell your dentist that you want a wrap around x-ray. Some firms will do it free for new patients.

you could have had a small stroke. called a TIA. you need a MRI of your brain. My mini stroke started in my left eye one night. It felt like my eye was drooping and I could not see out of it. All of a sudden it went away. So I went to bed. Told my eye Doctor the next day and he said To go see my Doctor, I had a TIA, Mini Stroke. Good luck
