What are other survivors doing about pancreatic enzymes replacement?

Posted by marvinjsturing @marvinjsturing, Jul 13, 2018

I am a 4 year survivor of pancreatic cancer. I have been on creon since my Whipple. It is very expensive. I talked to someone who was using Pure Encapsulation instead of creon. The formula doesn't match my creon, but it is about 1/4 the cost of the co-play on creon. What are other survivors doing about pancreatic enzymes replacement?

Our son had a surgery in Belgrade, Serbia, Whipple, and we bought Creon there, it is around 10 US dollars per 100 tablets of 10000, 25000 is more expensive, around 15 US dollars. Here in Canada is around 50 can. dollars, Just to give you idea.

My surgeon signed me up for free creon. Check Abbvie.com and they will send you an application. I was approved once I turned in my application and my surgeon did the same. The creon is mailed to be.

Ask your doctor/oncologist office. That's where I got my abbvie form. I am getting it free via mail. They even filled out the form for me. All I had to do was sign it.

Hello @tracyweis

I appreciate your addition to this conversation! @patti1952 asked for some help understanding what a Whipple procedure is. Since you have had one yourself, could you provide a little information to let her know the reason for the procedure and how it worked for you?

I look forward to hearing from you again.

Teresa

Mine started with digestive c problems then eating problems then 30 pounds weight loss. I was finally sent to a surgeon in Dallas and he had mri's done then in ultrasound upper GI and it showed cancer in the bile duct of my pancreas. It has been 2 months since my surgery and am taking creon for the enzymes.

By the way. I recently had a CT scan and it is clear of cancer.

Has anyone taking Creon had issues with gout while taking it? It is said that Creon may increase uric acid levels...
