@momther
My doctor said absolutely not, ever.
No meds that have any kind of blood thinners.
I take Tylenol Arthritis.
It is not like Advil or anything like that, but it does help.

@momther Welcome back to Mayo Clinic Connect, a place to give and get support.

You had gastric bypass 12 years ago and you have been able to maintain your weight. Congrats on your success.

You are wondering if it is you can take Aleve?

Members like @fourof5zs @ejayne01 @sandytoes14 @judipogo @shrinkerbell have experience discussing this topic and may be able to help.

@grandmar and @aprilarlady said that their providers advised them to not take Aveve. Since you asked the question, may I ask if this is the advice your provider gave you as well?

@momther sorry I am so late in input.. some post just get thrown into my junk mail and it may be weeks before I see a post I am tagged in.

My surgery in 2014 was not for weight loss, but for a hiatal hernia. Same surgery.. and same advice. No Nsaids because it can cause ulcers... more likely to be bleeding ones. That said .. I get migraine headaches a few times a year.. thankfully, not as often as I used to.. and so far I “have not” been able to get good results from migraine medications. At the first sign of onset of a migraine I take two extra strength Tylenol and one regular aspirin. Usually one dose is enough to prevent, sometimes I have to do two doses. I take the meds with food.

I also have osteoarthritis and some tendonitis in various places in my body. When low weather fronts come through the pain gets pretty bad. I take 5 mg of oxycodone up to four times a day for chronic pain I have... but it does very little for arthritis. I use an arthritic cream to help ease the pain... everyone is different, so experiment and you will find what works the best for you. Ice or moist heat can help. My body likes moist heat best and I use a microwave heating pad similar to what most physical therapist use. If extremely bad pain I make an appointment with my primary/family doctor. He will give me a toradol injection and sometimes a steroid (depro medrol) injection. I do that two or three times a year. If it is only you elbow you may want to see a pain specialist or orthopedist that can place an injection of steroid or other medication into the joint.

I hope you get relief.
