Abiraterone + Wysolone 5 mg (prednisolone)

Posted by sbd @sbd, Nov 19 12:16pm

Urologist prescribed Abiraterone: 250mg (morning and night), and Wysolone 5 mg (prednisolone), only in the morning. Quick question, are these (Abiraterone + prednisolone) to be taken together? Or Abiraterone first, on empty stomach, and Wysolone 5 mg (prednisolone) just before food (at least one hour after Abiraterone) ?
Thanks in advance!

Prednisone Can be taken with or without food. Abiraterone Stops your body from producing Cortisol. Without it, you have a lot of fatigue. Prednisone restores the missing Cortisol And keeps your fatigue at a low level for most people. I worked with people that have had severe fatigue and had to move up to 10 mg of Prednisone. They’re actually is a standard dosage of five or 10 mg so it depends on what the doctor recommends.

You apparently are Being given a very low dose of abiraterone. Normally, you would take four pills all at once after fasting for two hours. Have to wait an hour before you eat. If you eat a low-fat diet, you can take one pill after you have eaten and it is equivalent to taking four pills.

The question is, what did your doctor say about taking 250 mg twice a day? I have never heard of anybody having that prescription with abiraterone. You need to speak to the doctor and clarify this. Does he expect you to take the pill twice a day after waiting two hours following eating? Does he want you to eat low-fat diet twice a day and Take 250 mg, That’s twice the dosage anybody ever gets this drug. The directions seem wrong, It could be you misunderstood what you should be doing with the drug.

I took it for 2 1/2 years and had a breakfast in the morning with prednisone, and then two hours later took the abiraterone. The low fat diet option with one pill was not something that most doctors recommended, But I know people that have done it and it works just great for them.

Speak to the doctor. If you are having 1/4 that dosage at two separate times, you need to know about eating directions.

For over three years, my husband took 1000 mg of Abiraterone (4 250 mg tablets) first thing every morning an hour before eating anything, plus 5 mg of prednisone twice a day. This was the prescription from Dr. Kwon at Mayo Rochester. I have no experience or knowledge about smaller doses of Abiraterone or about taking them on a different schedule. You need to talk to the urologist who gave you this prescription about the proper timing of eating and of taking the pills. Only he or she can answer these questions and explain the reasoning behind the prescription you received.

I took 1000 mg of Abiraterone on an empty stomach and at least 1 hour before a meal and then did the 5mg of Prednisone with a meal, so I did this at 11am and 12pm respectively. When I complained about hot flashes, dr. reduced the Abiraterone to 750mg, whether it had a measurable impact is debatable. He indicated that because people have such different diets and types of food consumption, that while it is fine to take Abiraterone with food in much smaller doses, that the type of food and metabolism rates vary so much, that the guidance is less clear, so he didn't advise going that approach.

The hot flashes are from low testosterone not specifically from abiraterone. If you are also on ADT, that is as much at fault. I did have a lot more hot flashes when I was on abiraterone, But I had a lot when I was just on ADT.

It is unlikely to make any difference at all to reduce the amount of abiraterone, Because your testosterone gets reduced below 20 very quickly. One thing it may reduce is the amount of brain fog abiraterone causes.

I know a few people that are taken 250 mg of Abbie with a low-fat breakfast and have the exact same medical result as taking four pills with an empty stomach. It must be a low-fat meal. Some doctors let their patients do this some doctors don’t recommend it.
