@upnorth94 When your stem cell transplant team, usually through a procurement center, finds a matching donor they’ll contact you. Once a donor is found there are several steps to go through. Usually at that point you sit down with your doctor again to discuss possible options for donor, if more than one. Then the donor is notified and commits to follow through.
After that, your team schedules the procedure which is preceded a few weeks before with exams, imaging, blood work and educational classes. Meanwhile, your donor would be going through necessary steps to harvest cells to coordinate with the transplant date.
So this isn’t like a solid organ transplant where you have to be ready at a moments notice. There will be a lead time of at least a month or more before all the ducks are in a row.
