I am distressed to hear about this complication. I believe that is what is happening to me post TKR 1 ½ yr ago.
I have noticed visual changes, and have effusion around the replacement. I have also had further painful bone changes around the metal joint that have not been explained to me. I had Smith & Nephew GENESIS II implant, which is mainly oxinium, but some cobalt as well.
I am not having a revision, nor needed surgery on the other knee.
My orthopedic surgeon does not seem to be concerned with my discomfort, has not suggested that I might have metallosis, and I feel abandoned.

@cj38 You are NOT alone. And you don't deserve to have your pain and your fears dismissed by any doctor. I would seek out a second opinion, if I were you. I don't trust doctors and surgeons anymore, because they have taught me not to trust them. Good luck to you. AC
