How long ago did you have your lumbar spine MRI? You may want an updated one if more than 6 months ago.

Have you seen a neurologist for EMG/nerve conduction studies of your lower body to check neuromuscular function/health?

I have cervical and lumbar stenosis, degenerative disc disease, myelopathy (spinal cord compression injury) and neurogenic claudication. I’ve had decompression and fusion surgeries on c5–c6, c6-c7, and l3-l5. I currently have an adjacent segment issue at l2-l3 which is classified as severe stenosis (have herniated disc and joint deterioration crowding my already congenitally narrow spinal canal). This is causing me significant nerve pain and weakness in buttocks, hips, hip flexors and legs. I also am dealing with bilateral gluteal tendinopathy and bilateral high grade partial hamstring tears which makes walking, going up and down stairs, standing up from seated positions and standing for extended periods very painful/uncomfortable. I feel I am at significant risk of falling so I can empathize with your situation.

Geez Hope you are going through a LOT, and that's a massive understatement. I admire you for fighting your way through this, and sharing your story here.

My lumbar spine is help together by a strong set of core muscles. Even so, my back is very stiff when I wake up and start moving. I have tried acupuncture recently, on a cruise, with some success and plan to continue. (Medicare Part B covers acupuncture treatment of the lower back.)

Stay strong Hope, and all the best to you. You are a fighter!
