The blocking ring was towards the lower side of the food pipe..
The doctor did something called as esophageal dilation, using the endoscopy device (literally like popping a baloon)...there are other ways of dilation using a baloon, to increase diameter of esophagous, but that is may be for cases where it has narrowed even further... these procedures take not more than 10-15 mins.
