Prolia discontinuation

Posted by czauderer @czauderer, Dec 12, 2024

Hi, due to an osteoporosis diagnosis, I took two injections of Prolia six months apart and due two side effects, I want to come off of it. I do not want to transition to a bisphosphonate or remain on one. How do I take myself off of Prolia safely? I am not getting a straight answer from my doctor.

I have been reading through the thread from the beginning. It contains a lot of helpful info. Thank you all who have contributed to it. Everyone's contribution is helpful. Update here is that my Endocrinologist( even though he said he did not believe it was necessary) was willing to support my request for a CTX and P1np testing schedule of now in October again at 6 weeks and again before I see him in January . Of this I am thankful. My first P1NP was a 33mcg/l and CTX at 225pg/ml. Doing the conversion I believe I had a ratio of 146.66. I don't really understand what that means. I saw in one paper the desire to have the P1NP below 30. If anyone can give me more info and research about this I would appreciate it.

I would love to have your biomarker results. I once went on quest for info about 'ratios' and found a rabbit hole I was fortunate to crawl out of.

Another thread with extremely important and helpful info on quitting Prolia is entitled Support for those quitting Prolia.

This is the thread where I just posted my most recent update reporting follow/up post-Prolia. My June DEXA scan was disappointing even though I was not displeased with the biomarkers.

I decided to go on the bio collagen peptide, Fortibone. I will not be taking any other pharma drugs for osteoporosis.

@lifeisgood4me I have just decided to do the same. I had a bad reaction to Reclast a number of years ago and don't want to experience that again. The side effects of all those drugs are horrible. I'm just starting peptides with Fortibone and we'll see how my bone scan looks in 2 years. Please let me know how you're doing.

@haikutaxi: I've never heard of Fortibone? Is that prescription or over the counter.

@mkoch Fortibone is a brand name of a type of collagen that many functional leaning practitioner talk about necessary for bone health and is a element in the collagen supplement they sell such as Dr. McCormick 's OsteoNaturals.

I wish l had information about coming off Prolia

@victor5211 do i. I have had 3 injections and my arthritis is so much worse . I take for my anti estrogen meds astrozole( sp?)
My cancer is estrogen rrlated. Estrogen med above was prescribed after my surgery an radiation. I was told early detection played a big part in early
Lumpectomy. Dr failed to get clear margins within days i has 2nd durgey.
I feel i have been misinformed. Dr suggested i try for two injections at 6 months apart and i could safely stop. A five year maximum would give me time to rid myself of cancer and be cancer free.
Now every thing i read says the longer i take prolia the more risk i have in stopping.
It is time fir the 4th shot snd i am so wishing i had never took the first. I feel tiredand my arthritis is soooo much worse the anti hormone meds make me almost senile but i can endure but griwing fear over having to live on prolia or some other bone meds with so many scary dide effects…what if i have to have emergency surgery with no time to come off prolia?
