High Grade T1 bladder cancer prognosis

Posted by kathyhl605 @kathyhl605, 3 days ago

My husband has recently been diagnosed with high grade T1 bladder cancer after TURBT biopsy. He had TURBT on 10/09/25 and less than 5 tumors were found. He had another TURBT 11/10/25 and no more tumors found. Dr. did another biopsy, but results have not come back.My husband had prostatectomy about 20 years ago, and has had stents in his heart . He will start Gem/Doce chemo in 3 weeks. Has anyone had this type of cancer and what is prognosis? He is 79 and very active physically and mentally. Has anyone had high grade T1 and what is prognosis? Thank you.

I am on my third session of Gem/Doc following a TURBT procedure on 10/6. A 3 centimeter tumor was removed and was found to be high grade T1. The sessions are not too bad but the bladder pain afterwards, for me, has been rough.
I’m told that after the sessions I will have another cystoscopy to see if any new tumors can be seen. If not, then I’ll be on a maintenance protocol for the foreseeable future.
I’m a 72 year old woman and have never had any major health challenges. So this came as quite a shock. But I’m hopeful and positive and have a wonderful support system so that makes a huge difference.
Hopefully your husband will tolerate the treatment well. I will say that my docs offered to do just one of the chemo treatments at a time (either the gemcetabine or the docetaxel) and then come back in a day or two for the other. But I don’t want to go through the insertion twice in a week and would rather have the discomfort!
I do hope all goes well for your husband. God bless!

Typically, PT1* has excellent odds for medium to long term survival. It is complicated however: LVI invasion, depth, length, presence of CIS, multifocal, genetic profile, rare variant, size, patient characteristics and so on. Ask your oncologist.
