Good morning sundance. I've been to New Mexico at least a dozen times, I went to Red River to snow ski. Also Angel fire and around the Taos area.
The homes weren't chesp there, nor the prices. I'm sure it's because the skiing.
I've never been to the west side of New Mexico. I'm good with that as long as its not a desert, like most of the lower half of New Mexico.o

@koneil Hi! New Mexico is a very different place! The northern have is above 5,000'. Then you go south of ABQ and it steadily drops until you get to El Paso.
We go from mountains at 12,000' to about 3,000'. Most people think of NM as I-40 which is not very pretty!
Where I live is in a little town named Aztec. There are 3 towns in what they call the Four Corners. Farmington, Bloomfield , and Aztec! West of Farmington is the Navajo Nation, the largest size wise in the US.
Most of the economy is tied to Natural Gas production! One of the largest in the US.
In Aztec I live 20 miles south of Colorado and the Ski town of Durango!
I life on the Animas River, which has a large stand of Cottonwoods.
Prices in my area are higher than Albuquerque. The city of ABQ is short of a million people! But it is spread out. You have a 10,000' mountain on the east side of town. If there is enough snow in a year they have a great little ski area.
Prices in ABQ are moderate compared to Phoenix or Denver.
Lived there for 50 years and loved it.
Moved up here to Aztec 4 years ago to be closer to my family! A little more quiet! I live on the edge of a 100 year old ranch! Very Peaceful!
Hope I answered most of your questions. If not give me a Shout back!
Thanks,
