Getting dentures

@amberpep So sorry to hear about your dental problems! I've had a lot of that myself and it is painful financially and physically isn't it? I hope that your surgery goes well tomorrow so you can get on with the rest of the process. Let us know how it goes for you. Teresa

Even when this process is done, I owe them both bundles of money .... money I don't have. Somehow, I just can't get ahead financially. A girlfriend of mine told me to declare bankruptcy. I just can't do that. As soon as I get into this low-income apartment I simply have got to find a full time job. I'll do anything I can.

@amberpep, good luck with your surgery and just think of how good it will be when it is all done and you are able to eat normally again. I too have dentures, with implants, and it was extremely expensive but I am so glad I was able to scrimp and go that route. Funny note, when I told my son I was getting implants he took it the wrong way and after he got over the shock he said "WHY MOM?".

Thanks JK .... well, it's done. One of the roots he took out was sharp all the way around .... the other was just like the rest - in shards. I came home, took 1 Tramadol and 2 Motrin and planted myself in my lounge chair and went to sleep, waking up with one cat on my legs and the other on the top of my chair. Expensive is right. The work the O.S. has done has come to over $2,000, and the dentist and dentures will come to about $5,000. But, with a Care Credit card it's much easier to get rid of it and pay it off. Well, better go and have some tea. Thanks again for thinking about me.

@amberpep Abby, thank goodness it's behind you now. There are a few different topics I participate in, one being about liver transplant. I presume you are not on that one and not either waiting for a transplant or post-transplant. I am and cannot take anything non-rx other than tylenol for pain. I think I can still take oxycodone, which for some weird reason keeps me awake at night so I do not like to take it.
Tylenol is so worthless.

Hi there .... yes, I agree, Tylenol is almost worthless. So you're waiting for a liver transplant? Wow .... I'll be praying for you. What is wrong with your liver? Are you on a very restricted diet? And you must feel terrible most of the time. What happened to you that your liver is in such bad shape? Please keep us updated and I will be praying for you.

@amberpep sorry for the confusion. I am six months post-transplant. I had non-alcoholic cirrhosis, apparently from NASH. The transplant was wonderful, I have felt great from around the second month. I will be forever grateful for this gift.

Hi all. I'm 71 and since I've moved I'm in the process of getting dentures. I've had bad teeth since I was a child with the first filling being when I was 4! Brushing teeth just was not something my parents pushed. Well, finally after crowns, bridges, pins, root canals, and absesses for years, I'd had enough and I'm going ahead with them. My teeth were "demineralized" so when my dentist took them out small fragments of the root were left in ..... so then I go to an Oral Surgeon to have them surgically removed and stitched up. As I'm waiting for that to heal a bit, of course my gums shrunk and the muscles or tissue (whatever it's called) at the jaw and between the top gum and teeth were preventing me from getting the temporary ones in. So, back into surgery we go and he cut the excess tissue away, stitched it up, and now I'm trying to learn to wear the top denture .... it's a temporary one, then in January when everything is healed, he will have made the permanent ones. Well, I can't eat with it in as it clanks around in there like a bucket of bolts, so I still have to mash or puree everything to eat it. Now I have to wait til mid-Jan. to get the permanent ones, that will be smaller and fit, get the bottom ones, and then learn to eat, or try to all over again. Such a going on!!!!! Is this pretty typical when someone gets dentures? or is this just one of those things that's quirky?

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences. I, too, had a year with dental problems and PAIN. I developed cellulitis as a result of an abscessed front tooth. Everyone seems to think cellulitis is something only women get on their legs! Facial cellulitis is a result of a bad infection and MUST be attended to asap or it can spread up through the sinuses to the brain and could lead to death. I'm telling you not to scare you, but so you go to regular dental visits for check-ups, etc. Agree, the prices are astronomical. I suggest that you search CARE CREDIT. It helped me pay on a timely basis and plan dental work spread over the months. Good luck.
