Hi Charlotte,
I'm sorry you have an UTI. That's not fun. I had a UTI and had to wait a week to see my doctor. I did some research on the Mayo Clinic website and it said that dehydration can cause a UTI. So I started drinking a lot of water and it worked! The UTI went away and I cancelled my doctor's appointment. Now possibly I had a mild UTI and that's why I didn't need any medication. Water is very good for your body. We all need to drink a lot of it. I hope things get better for you.

@pml I had many UTIs when I was in my 30's. At that time my doctor prescribed Macrodantin and that worked for me. Many years later I developed a silent UTI meaning I didn't have the usual symptoms I'd experienced in the past including pain and urge to urinate. At that time it turned out I had a large kidney stone that did not pass and was infected. Again, no pain but I did develop fever, chills, and aches as I was septic. Scary, right? I was prescribed Cipro at that time and it worked. Cipro was prescribed because of the type of bacteria (which I cannot recall right now). After the kidney stone was removed (surgically) I took Cipro for a short time. I didn't have any side effects from Cipro. I've had one or two UTIs since then and been prescribed a short course of Macrobid.

What did you decide? Cipro? Another antibiotic?
