Any book or info suggestions about sexual health after prostatectomy?
Hi,
I am almost to month 5 in my recovery, and able - with a penis pump and a couple of 5 mg tedafil pills - to get an erection that is firm enough for sex. My "care team" is telling me that it is early on, and time itself will be the biggest healer from here on out, but I want to be very proactive and approach this correctly. Can any recommend a book about recovering sexual health after a prostatectomy?
I am tired of wading through Youtube videos that offer nothing more than clickbait thumbnails or titles. Hopefully there is some book, blog, or specialist out there that can give me more than doing kegels and increasing my sexual activities. I am not expecting a magic bullet, but I want something that speaks to those who are ready to take X steps to recover their previous sexual health. Thanks!

This is not clickbait or just titles —> This 2023 presentation out of Stanford University might provide you some ideas to discuss with your medical team —> “Penile Rehab: Optimizing Recovery of Erectile Function after Prostate Cancer Treatment” —>
They talk about a variety of remedies and explain them quite well.
Good luck.

UCSF has reasonable information about "Penile Rehabilitation Therapy. "PRT."
https://www.ucsfhealth.org/conditions/erectile-dysfunction
I am nearing the 12 year point since my diagnosis.
My surgery was nerve sparing. I've done done ADT twice, when I did SRT my radiologist had me sign on the dotted line acknowledging the risk of ED by "frying" the nerves.
My only PRY, a daily 5 mg Cialis and self stimulation. Even when on ADT I did not lose my libido not function, ability to achieve an erection and orgasm.
So, likely I'm an outlier, much to my wife's dismay...!
It was about a year after surgery before I could say " recovered." It's different though, dry orgasm, greater stimulation, both physical and mental. Both to achieve an erection and orgasm.
At the heart of PRT, at least for me is "use it or lose it."
So, PRT seems to follow the "step" approach, start with, progress to.
You can search this forum for conversations on this subject that take the details of PRT to a whole nother level...'

1 Reaction@bwjb The book is called "Saving Your Sex Life: A Guide for Men with Prostate Cancer." It's slightly dated but contains a lot of useful information. He's the sexual health doctor I've been seeing for more than a year now and has helped me tremendously. He's also a real straight shooter and tells it like it is--definitely not like my oncologist who downplayed the sexual SE's of treatment.
He stresses the importance of beginning sexual rehab AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after surgery or radiation. If you wait too long sexual problems become much harder to treat. He also compiles data from more than 15,000 men who've had treatment for prostate cancer so is on the cutting edge in a lot of areas.

I will definitely read this, once I can get my hands on it. Used copies seem to be in short supply. I have already begun sexual rehab - using a pump several times a week, taking tadifil (I upped the dosage to 20 mg), and I have been doing kegel exercises since before my surgery in early june. Any nuggets of wisdom you can pass along until I get myself a copy? Thanks!
@bwjb thanks!

Thanks Kevin. I am definitely going to keep at my PRT. So far it is going well, I just have to be patient, I suppose
