@cyndi2013 Rotator cuff surgery has a longer recovery period than many other surgeries, because repairing soft tissue like tendons requires sewing them together, then waiting patiently for the repair to heal completely. You are typically in a restrictive sling day and night, with no lifting allowed, for 6 weeks before rehab begins. You remove it a couple times a days to move gently, and your surgeon may allow you to type and eat with that arm after a couple weeks. During rehab, lifting is gradually allowed, beginning with a pound or two, up to 20-30 pounds after 4 months. It takes about a year to regain full strength and use. As many as 25-50% of repairs may fail because patients don't respect these limits.
