metastatic prostate cancer and proton therapy plus hormone treatment

Posted by tojo @tojo, Mar 18 9:34pm

I have been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer which apparently involves 3 nodes near my prostate as seen on a psma petscan. Has anyone had luck with proton beam treatment vs traditional photon radiation?
Any side affects from the proton therapy ?
Long term side affects from hormone therapy?

Thanks.

I had proton beam therapy 28 sessions. Was stage 4, gleason 9 and psa 98.
Than almost 2 years hormone chemo therapy. I should have only done 1.

long term fatigue, can't regulate body temp (too cold) balance, headachs.

How are you doing now in terms of PSA, and testosterone levels. I’m on 24- months of orgovyx and zytega only 6 months in. Had proton in 2022 then in march 2025 PSA rose to 1.04 scan lit up 2 lymph nodes so back for imrt for those PSA currently undetectable, but still have 18 months of the meds to go. For me currently side effects are minimal if any. I’m 70 with hopefully years to go before I sleep.
