What is the first line of defense when gastroparesis gets worse?

Posted by helpmytummyguts @helpmytummyguts, 2 days ago

I'm searching for help with gastroperesis that has suddenly become worse. Where does a person start? I am hoping to avoid medication for as long as possible. I've suddenly developed constipation. The magnesium-citrate powder causes my blood pressure to drop if taken at the dose on the bottle. So much info and confusion on the Google. Anyone out there with experience with this?

I have been successfully treated by both an EAR NOSE and THROAT specialist as well as an earlier Gastroenterologist. However, it was indeed a medication change that helped

What was the medication change, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m also struggling terribly with this conditions I was on reglan but had to get off because of side effects. Now without any meds, I can barely eat. I’ve lost over 40 lbs and continuing to lose. It’s either the nausea or no appetite- I can’t even make myself eat. It’s horrible.

Please go to a motility specialist/GI doctor so they can find a regimen that works for you.I have reflux, moderate gastroparesis and chronic constipation and responding well to Prilosec,Motegrity and Miralax daily, dosing was adjusted for all three by GI doctor over the course of 3 months bases on my response.

This is very helpful. Thank you! In the field of GI specialty, how do I search for a motility specialist? Do I just search for GI motility specialist?
Thank you for your help!

@jerce How did the ENT help you? I am curious about the medication approach. Although I want to avoid medication, at this point I am not opposed.

@alc69 I was prescribed reglan years ago and broke out in hives and had hallucinations. Weird stuff!! Has your doctor seen you since you went of reglan? In my worst flare up I lived on Kozy Shack rice and tapioca puddings. Totally goes against my no-sugar routine but I would eat small amounts throughout the day. I lost only 10 pounds. I need to lose more but not by starving!

@helpmytummyguts the doctor said there’s nothing more he can do for me. Reglan was awful. I also went through withdrawal coming off it. It was just nasty. If I could have dairy, I might not be so emaciated. I don’t care about sugar or anything, I just want to be a normal weight again.
