Two years ago, my gyn strongly recommended against starting HRT at my age (now 73). I listened and did not start HRT. Instead, I have concentrated more on diet and exercise. I drink organic unsweetened soy milk daily for the little bit of estrogen it provides. My dexa numbers have remained stable and I have not fractured anything.

@pennykj

Thanks for the update. Two years ago for me my gyn advised against it also. However, she was willing to consider it if my endo agreed to it. (I'm seeing an endo for osteoporosis.) Well both my endo and PCP are pointing me to the gyn. I think everyone is side stepping because of the WHI study. So I've started requesting tests for my own benefit even if I need to pay for them. I've since done a CAC (cornary artery calcium) test which showed 0 plaque build up. My PCP is doing cholesterol and apoB test in March. My plan was to go back to my gyn next year for another discussion. I'm looking at HRT for all the benefits not just osteoporosis e.g., cardi, cholesterol, sleep, dementia, etc. Honestly I'm not sure if I want to go down the HRT route or not. I'm just trying to have a benefit/risk conversation with my dr's. In the meantime I'm laser focused on diet and exercise for my osteoporosis.
