Genicular nerve block/ablation, PRP and Toradol
Just wondering if anyone has had this procedure done on a knee. I had a knee replacement five years ago and can’t ever put myself through that again. My other knee is bone on bone and is painful. An orthopedic doctor recommended this procedure to me but did say that it sometimes needs to be repeated because the nerves regenerate. Would love to hear from anyone who has had this experience. Thanks very much! MaryAnn from Boston

I would def try it before another TKR again! I am in the same position as you! well, almost, but my other knee is also showing signs of future need!

I have not had an ablation, but I will be having a genicular nerve block on 11/7. Several Drs have recommended either FKR or PKR and I’m not wanting to have one at this time. Pain Mng will be performing the nerve block procedure.

5 ReactionsThank you! I don’t know what an FKR or PKR are but I want to wish you all the best and good luck as you go through this procedure.
I had it done, no results. so with other knee will look into GAE procedure when I hit the one year mark on the healing of the first knee. As you, I do NOT want to go through another TKR ! I did inquire about GAE for 1st knee, but was advised to go to a surgeon (meaning to have TKR). There are moments I think perhaps I should have gone for another consultation about GAE.

2 Reactions@mabfp3 sorry it’s full knee replacement or partial knee replacement. I’ll let you know how the genicular nerve block goes on 11/7. I’m trying lesser invasive treatments for knee pain relief. Wishing you the best as well!

1 Reaction@kathynv. Following, please come back and post your results. I'm in the same boat and will be having my gnb on 11/22, hoping to try to postpone TKR. Crossing my fingers for you for pain relief.

1 ReactionPlease remind me if I forget to give an update next week. Not many Drs even discuss this option as an option to postponing knee replacement. Also, make sure you are not having just a “diagnostic” one as required by Medicare to see if you are a candidate for RFA. I don’t want RFA if suggested.
