I am about to start the keto diet. I have been practicing intermittent fasting for months and have lost 17 pounds. I would like to know how you do the keto diet. I have been hesitant because I also have kidney disease, and some of the foods in the diet are not good for the kidneys. I appreciate any suggestions you provide. Thanks and best of luck!

@roses2 I gather that keto can be hard on the kidneys in general, or even counter indicated. I have kidney disease and I wouldn't start a keto diet without checking with my nephrologist. As I don't know a great deal about this I would certainly get a professional opinion--maybe from a dietician as well. Books and boards can be great, but I'd make sure to get information from my doctor first.

@roses2 oh, I would definitely ask your Dr about what you can and can’t do. I don’t have kidney disease so I don’t know how to advise. I eat plenty of fats and some protein and very little carbs. I feel good eating this way because I don’t have to deal with the sugar fluctuations. But for some people, just doing IF and eating a Mediterranean type of diet works well. But definitely check with your dr. because you don’t want your kidney issues to worsen! Good luck!

@roses2 the keto diet is possibly the worst diet you can do, you need to focus on vegetables, fruit and legumes and grains - keto puts stress on the kidneys - eat healthy foods instead. If you’re going it for weight loss, eat legumes every day.
