Side Effects of Shingles Vaccine

Posted by ssbionicknee @ssbionicknee, Sep 20, 2018

I got the flu shot and the new shingles vaccination 3 days ago. Today I started feeling sick to my stomach. I've never had a reaction to the flu shot and was wondering if anyone else felt sick after getting the shingles vaccine?

The first Shingrix shot left me feeling I had a bad case of the flu. I am on day 7 post shot and still not feeling well. Very dizzy and upset stomach. I also had the flu shot the same day.

I learned to take only one vaccine at a time. The last time I took flu shot and RSV together I had bad rash on my shoulder. It's probably ok for young ppl but not for old woman like me. I always make sure I eat something before taking vaccine and move my arm vigorously for half a minute right after so I don't get sore later. I'd like to take Emergen-C and drink lots of water after the shot. It works for me.

What great ideas for taking vaccines.Thank you!!

I just had a discussion with my Primary Care Physician about the vaccines. He said that the shingles vaccine can have various reactions that may be uncomfortable for a time. Didn't expand om what they may be.

We did ok after all 3 of our shingles vaccines. The big things for us are move arm after getting shot, and taking a NSAID at 1st sign of feeling “junk.” My spouse used to wait and ended up feeling like he had the flu. Now he takes it sooner and doesn’t end up feeling as poorly.
Mainly I got a sore arm at injection site — greatly preferable to getting shingles which can cause pain in nerve(s) for years.

Hi,
I would suggest that you do a search for the side effects of the Shingles Vaccine before you get it. The Mayo Clinic would be the best and safest place to search for this. You can trust their results.
I wish you the best.

I got the first Shingrix vacc 6 days ago. I have high bp and Mitral valve prolapse. All under contro. w/ meds. On day 2 or 3 I got vertigo for about an hour unable to lie down, fine sitting up. Next day took my regular BP in morning and it is usually around 140/65. Was 190/90 and then down to 170/85 the after about an hour into the low 150s/78 or so. Next 2 days almost same thing, but not quite as high on first reading. I also had a whole day of almost constant heart skipping beats. I have not had this for over 4mos. or so. Today seems a bit better. Still 170/85 for first AM reading, but back in 140/75 or so now. Anyone else have BP spikes? I am 74yrs old.

@havasulady
Good morning havasulady,
I am 80 years young and at 17 years of age, I Joined the US Army National Guard. My oldest brother was drafted, our middle brother joined as did I, the younger of three boys.
My BP was 161 over 97 at that time and ever since then, my BP readings have averaged between 175 systolic over 92 diastolic. I have had a triple bypass in 2017 and the Cardiothoracic surgeon said, "your BP is high but its the same when we anesthetized you. Try and lower it a bit with diet changes." I smiled and thanked him for his time. Delightful human. He was very wise and understanding.
I have never been overweight, smoked some until 1975 then quit, and perhaps have consumed less then two or three gallons of beer in my lifetime. I don't like the stuff. I work out with my wife and we ride our bikes about 100 miles or so every week. We think were blessed with good jeans but also with balanced diets that enhance what we have left of ourselves.
Hang in there and be patient: usually, any foreign agents in our gut or blood stream, either by our own desires or medications can effect our varied readings. Best to you; Joseph

I was told you get one shot for pneumonia then a different one a year later. Is there something new out?

@jakedduck1
PCV20 and PPSV23
From WebMD: What pneumonia shots for a 78 year old male?
For a 78-year-old male, the recommended pneumonia shots are PCV20 and PPSV23. PCV20 is a conjugate vaccine that protects against 20 strains of pneumococcal bacteria, while PPSV23 is a polysaccharide vaccine that protects against 23 strains. These vaccines are crucial for preventing pneumococcal disease, which can be particularly dangerous for older adults. It is important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the best vaccination schedule and to ensure that the necessary doses are received to maintain optimal protection against pneumococcal infections.
