Suggestions for questions of surgeon following RARP

Posted by sanDGuy @sandguy, Oct 15 5:56pm

Hi,
I'm meeting tomorrow morning with the surgeon who performed my RARP two weeks ago this past Monday. Unfortunately I haven't yet received any pathology reports, but presumably/hopefully he might have them for me.
Allowing for that uncertainty, might you have any suggestions as to what I should ask him about?
For a refresher, I had what was Gleason 8 / Class 4 in some cores, but with no visible escape beyond the organ itself. He also did lymphodectomy, so hopefully those are negative as well. So beyond questions about that, margins, etc. I'm wondering it there's anything else I should discuss.
I'm recovering pretty well, BTW, aside from bladder control issues, that is...
THANKS!

It’s very important to see the final results of the prostate biopsy. Things could be in there that are an issue even though there are clean margins. You need to carefully review exactly what it says.

Hopefully he didn’t get into the Gleason Score because it didn’t change, and nothing else was found.

Thank you (guru) Jeff, but for some reason I'm finding myself sticking my fingers in my ears and singing "la la la la...!"

Just want to add that I feel truly blessed--not in any religious sense--to have ended up where I am.
I feel that the service I received at the UCSD hospital was first-rate. It also cost me in total less than $100, amazingly. I've tried over the years to consciously maintain my health by avoiding junk food, as well as not eating meat (unless fish counts), and exercising, keeping my weight moderate. But of course cancer still strikes in something of a random manner, in many cases.
I do have a "Silver" medical plan, which is subsidized 50% by the ACA, with my premiums being around $750 monthly. So GLAD I got that level of coverage! I have lived abroad much of my life--mostly Canada but also in Mexico--so won't qualify for Medicare until next year--just need ONE more quarter!
Must say that I am truly dismayed at the changes currently being envisaged for health coverage for so many of us. I'm wondering whether for future medical needs such as scans and the like, I'm going to have to consider slipping across the border to Tijuana!
As one of the premier first-world nations we really should be able to do better.
