Predict Breast Tool Online
I would like to share with everyone the following - if someone knows any further information re: this issue or this is the wrong information, please post (correct with accurate info).
I did the Predict Breast Tool online - https://breast.v3.predict.cam/tool as many of you did.
I am on an AI only - post mastectomy treatment.
I plugged in all my numbers as directed.
It was surprising to see my chances of survival with the AI and without the AI for 5, 10 and 15 years.
Basically the %'s were all the same!
However, I then read a bit further about this tool. IF you had a bilateral mastectomy (as I had) it does NOT apply. The tool is (apparently) used for breast cancer in only one breast, not two as I had. If anyone sees this as the wrong information or has further thoughts on using this tool, please share!
We always need the "correct" information as we fight our battle.
Thank you Warriors!

Thank you for pointing out that the Predict Breast Tool has some restrictions about who can use it. The Test Overview suggests they are constantly refining the test. Since I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in one breast, DCIS in the other, and had a double mastectomy, it seems the Predict Tool would not be useful to me since my diagnosis of bilateral breast cancer disqualifies me.
I mentioned the Predict Tool to my oncologist and she was somewhat dismissive of its value. I don't agree because I think reputable tools can help patients choose treatment options, if they want additional input.

3 ReactionsThank you so much for putting the link to the website. I'm nearly 80 and am undergoing radiation now. At the end of this treatment I'll be seeing a different oncologist from the one I saw after my lumpectomy surgery. He prescribed Letrozole after the radiation. I've read so much about the side effects of these estrogen blockering drugs, questioning whether I should take them based on my age and other health issues. Hopefully with this Predict Tool, I'll be able to go over the results with the new oncologist having a little more knowledge.

1 ReactionYes, do take the Predict Breast Tool. I am really hoping your %'s are good...Letrozole vs. No Letrozole and you don't need to take this drug. All the AI's basically have the same side effects BUT everyone's body system is different. You could have intolerable side effects, manageable side effects or just slight side effects.
I hear you about other health issues as I am in your shoes also...often we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place. Hopefully you and your new oncologist will work together to look at the big picture, YOUR big picture and taking this drug will not even be worth it as your approach age 80. All the best to you!

4 ReactionsYes, @ prarysky, I agreed with you. The oncologists are using prediction testing.
Look how they use the oncotype score test. That is certainly a prediction test.
And, I believe, there are more we aren't even aware the docs use...and they are reputable tests.
Because he was dismissive of the PBT, (& not doable anyway in your case) I would ask your oncologist if there are any other tests that can be applied in your particular breast cancer case/treatment options.
All the best to you on your journey.

6 ReactionsI like that the Predict Tool also has a section where you can jump to the side effects of Endocrine therapy . It was very helpful to me to look at this and see what the reported side effect percentages have been. To just read message boards has been making me feel doomed before I even start endocrine therapy; this helps put it in perspective for me. I'm hoping to not once again "draw the short straw" when it comes to my body's particular reaction to the medication! (I also feel compelled to say that I also in life have drawn some very long straws too, so there's that!)

2 Reactions@briarrose I agree that any reliable information we can get is good. I would add that I have no personal knowledge of this test.
I would also like to make sure everyone understands that answering questions online is not equal to the predictive tests that include tumor tissue and genetic samples.
Did your “predict” scores match up to your oncotype scores?

One can really dive into the rabbit hole of predictive testing. You mentioned the Oncotype DX test, which I had and was a major factor in my oncologist prescribing chemotherapy for me. I asked if I could receive a breakdown of the Onccotype DX score and was told that you only get the recurrence rate of chemo + an aromatase inhibitor vs chemo alone. I could be wrong about the Oncotype DX score meaning since it's been a while since I looked at mine
I was curious to know what variables went into producing that score. My genetic testing was negative for any type of cancer but my biopsy yielded a grade 3 which is aggressive. I felt there had to be other things going into the Oncotype DX score besides grade and Ki-67 levels.
I was told that information is not made available. Nevertheless, I contacted the company that produces the Oncotype DX to ask for that breakdown. They eventually agreed to send it to me but I can't interpret it and my oncologist was not able to do so either. So I have it but it remains a mystery to me. It probably doesn't alter any treatment decisions made from the basic recurrence scores provided.
I watched a webinar in which an oncologist spoke about some of the tests that are similar to the Oncotype DX. He mentioned alternatives to the Oncotype DX, such as Mammaprint and others. I believe Mammaprint does provide a breakdown of the genes or other variables that are tested.
https://ascopubs.org/doi/10.1200/jco.2015.33.15_suppl.11017
This study mentions some of these alternative tests:
"The Objective of our study was to investigate the concordance of patient results from a single university centre tested with the 21-gene recurrence score assay, Oncotype DX (ODX) when compared to the 70-gene signature Mammaprint (MP), the 80 gene signature of BluePrint (BP) and TargetPrint (TP)"
My hospital system uses the Oncotype DX and there is no patient choice about which of these tools may be used.

2 ReactionsYes, it certainly can be a rabbit hole and overwhelming re: "prediction tests".
And all information handed back and forth on this forum can always be questionable but is helpful in broadening our BC horizons to, perhaps, point us in a direction not initially thought of. There is no breast cancer oncology teams on this forum who are offering their personal expertise/advice to us. We all know very often what is said here warrants further medical investigation with our oncology treatment teams.
I believe our connect is supportive to others (so very important) and can open doors to questions, not previously thought of, to our treatment teams in many instances.
My oncotype score was 14. Chemotherapy benefit was less than 1% & not recommended.
Yes, my "predict" scores did match up to my oncotype scores with an AI. And I was surprised to see no changes in 5, 10 or 15 years with NO AI. The percentages with/without an AI matched.
But as stated previously, the Predict Test Tool is not indicated for me since I had invasive BC in both breasts. It is used for BC in one breast only.

6 Reactions@briarrose yes, you are correct that we are not medical professionals. But patients and caregivers, I am a breast cancer patient and a 21 year survivor. I agree with you about information! I just wanted to make sure that no one confused PREDICT with the genetic and tissue tests that your doctor orders.
I say if you can take it and use it as a tool, then that is awesome.
I find it curious that it isn’t supposed to be for bi lateral cancer.

3 ReactionsYes, I certainly was as well it's not applicable to bilateral cancer but it was there in the small print once I read it more thoroughly.
And you are right, the genetic and tissue testing ordered and done by one's doctor is not the Predict tool test!
Everyone take note of that!
Thank you Chris!
