Poor balance your No. 1 issue? Don't miss this FPN webinar!

Posted by Ray Kemble @ray666, Oct 22 12:21pm

Hello!

My PN is chronic idiopathic axonal polyneuropathy. I have no pain, but tons of balance issues. This morning, I was on hand for the live broadcast of the latest Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy webinar, "Regain your balance: Therapy and exercise for neuropathy patients." It was by far the most informative webinar for a fellow like me, with my particular brand of PN. The webinar was recorded and will be available on the FPN website (foundationforpn.org) in a few days, under News & Events: Past Webinars. If poor balance is your No. 1 issue, I encourage you to watch––with pen & pad at the ready!––this exceptional webinar.

Cheers!

I was very encouraged by some of the neuropathy exercises that were demonstrated in the second half of the webinar (although I think I will have to go outside to try that one where you fling around the tennis ball in the sock). If they work, I think they would help anyone who is starting to experience age-related movement challenges. I have found (as I age) that I have to consciously think about doing some movements that I used to do effortlessly with muscle memory. I have talked to friends (without neuropathy) who have experienced the same thing.

I was note-taking furiously as I watched. I know I missed a lot. I'm looking forward to the posting of the recording so I use my pause button. I, too, am looking forward to learning more about the various apps. The webinar's emphasis on neuroplasticity proved to be a bit of a coincidence for me as I just finished reading Nicholas Carr's "The Shallows" in which Carr writes extensively about neuroplasticity.

@ray666 I agree, it went by way too fast. In the post-webinar survey, I said that each speaker could have given couple of sessions with all the information that was presented. I found the brain-mapping part really fascinating.

Did I miss this webinar? If so, is it on the website?

While I was looking for some of the brain based balance exercises from the webinar I ran across this page on the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy from last year by one of the presenters of the webinar, Dr. LeeAnn Manoni.
-- Brain-Based Balance Exercises: https://www.foundationforpn.org/brain-based-balance-exercises/

There is a link at the bottom of the page to the 2024 FPN webinar on alternative therapies that enhance balance.

Very true, @edva1943, that FPN webinar was certainly chock full of info. Now that the recording is available, I've been re-watching the webinar while I peddle my stationary bike––trying with one hand to jot down notes … hoping at the same time not to fall off my bike! 🙂

Dear @ray666
Yes, my #1 is “poor balance”. It’s o my right leg down to my foot. 4 years ago, I fell down in my garage and hit both rear-ends. That was a 2-4 mths of all the problems. A year ago,I had a doctor that moved it and closed the pain, but still my “poor balance”. He told me the problem “poor balance will n\be there. I work my exercise my listing, walking (with rollers).

How can I?

Thx,
Greg D @greg1956
