Starting pemetrexed and carboplatin pembrolizumab: What to expect?

Hi everyone,
My name is Debbie and my username is ProfessorC as I just retired from teaching college mathematics. My husband and I moved mid July to a beautiful PGA Community with lots of senior activities that we started to dab in until he got the diagnosis. He has stage IV Mucinous Adenocarcinoma NSCLC. This went undiagnosed as pneumonia for 11 months dealing with the PCP and a Pulmonologist. He is to start his first of 4 rounds with carboplatin, pemetrexed and keytruda this coming Friday. I am just looking for a way to belong with others that have lung cancer and this treatment protocol. His cancer has no cure. Only this maintenance treatment to keep the cancer at bay. I will take all the help I can get. Thanks for reading, and God bless your treatment plan, your family and you.

@professorc HiYa it’s Dave from Pa: I also went 1 yr before they confirmed my previously treated lung cancer had metastasis. We started the same chemo your husband is scheduled for as well as (5) rounds of radiation in July. My latest scan showed (8) of (10) tumors have shrunk or disappeared! We’re maintaining the KEYTRUDA immunotherapy every 6 weeks for now. Yes, the first few days following treatment can be a bit rough but with results like these I’ll tolerate it. Hang in there you’re on the right path. DgA

Hi Debbie, @professorc, I'm sure his diagnosis was a shock, and not how you envisioned your early days of retirement. Life likes to take us off track sometimes. I hope he is doing ok after starting treatment. It sounds like he has a great advocate by his side, you! Be sure to communicate any issues with his team early so they can try to help alleviate any side effects. How are you holding up? Being that you recently moved, do you have a support system that can help to take care of you too?
