How to Quit Pantoprazole?
I have been on Pantoprazole for the last two months to combat the acid stomach I got from taking pain meds. I am feeling good now and want to know how to stop taking this drug. I still feel a little acidy when I wake up but couldn't I take something else for that?

@carolinlv hi I had reflux so bad it was very aciddy and couldn't catch my breath, I'm on pantoprazole 40 mg, MD said you can aspirate into your lungs. I just had hiatal hernia repair and no more reflux, thank God. I had the Toupet procedure. Hope you're doing g well

Did you have a hiatal hernia as well? If so, did they also have to repair the hiatal hernia (push the stomach back down through the diagrapham) before repairing the spinchter using the Toupet procedure? How long ago did you have the procedure. How was your recovery?
@jerce - how is the transition off of the pantoprazole going?
So far, so good. I have had only one mild episode in the transition to prescription Prevacid. The transition is taking a month.
As others have noted, it is probably best to follow a medical expert in making a change or even considering a change.

1 ReactionI'm trying it myself. Went from taking 40 mg of protonix to 40 mg of Famotidine (prescription grade )
@lisalucier
For me, the transition off Pantoprozale has been really good. It was the medication that was causing all of my symptoms. The worst part was the first two weeks like I said when I was first weening myself off of the medication. The "rebound" effect is brutal---however, it is worth it.

2 Reactions@mrobi hey there, yes I had a hiatal hernia! They kept stringing me along on Pantoprazole and finally sent me to specialist who referred me to a surgeon. I had surgery Sept. 26, the first week is rough, it was laparoscopic. the diet is the worst part! you must follow it to heal correctly. soft diet and clear liquids for first 2 weeks, gradually can add oatmeal, cream of wheat, puddings, ice cream, protein shakes. I am now starting to eat some of my regular food, no soda pop though and no breads yet. I do not regret having the surgery at all, it was the Toupet procedure. Yes they disected out the hernia and stitched me up. the stomach is now below the diaphram. I had an excellent surgeon.
