I'd have the proposed surgeon and your lung doctor confer. I've had multiple colonoscopies and other procedures requiring varying degrees of sedation since I was diagnosed with COPD over 25 years ago and had NO problems. It's something that most doctors can work with, as long as the lung doc and surgeon can agree on the best and safest option for you, the patient.

Often, they gave me conscious sedation, but sometimes general anesthetic and it's never been any problem for me. I make sure the surgeon is aware of my lung condition and we always have a separate anesthesiologist present.

@hicopd

If you don’t mind me asking, how severe has your COPD been over 25 years? Has it gotten worse or is it stable? Are you on any medication/inhalers? Thank you.
