Has anyone tried acupuncture for neuropathy?
I was just wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for neuropathy. The balls of my feet and toes on both feet are affected. It’s no longer covered on my insurance plan so I have to pay out of pocket for the treatments. I was told I would need about 9 or 10. It would cost me about $1000. I’d like to hear if anyone has had success with this type of treatment. Thanks, Nancy Banks.

So the only suggestion I can make regarding chiropractors is to vet them very carfully & let your PCP be aware that you're considering getting this treatment. Like any medical professional, there are good/great ones and ones that shouldn't be allowed to practice, and downright dangerous. I was luck enough to get a great one to fix a neck problem years ago.
Acupuncture is a blessing- again, if you get a good acupuncturist. I'm considering getting it again but being retired, I have to consider cost. Difficult to get an appt. with my insurance provider for this treatment.
@luvnursing52 I have been to multiple chiropractors over the years. Only one did anything to really help me. One used all sixteen visits approved by insurance within the span of a few weeks. Even after thatI felt no relief. I read a comment from a veteran chiropractor who said that if you don’t feel better after four visits, walk away. Good advice.

1 ReactionThat does sound like good advice. I'm considering alternatives at this point, but I'm still being evaluated for a couple of nervous system problems. Nothing definitive yet.
@heisenberg34 There was a time chiropractors weren’t on the “ paid” insurance list. Seeing acupuncturists beginning to practice from within hospitals. makes me hopeful that they, too , be seen for their effectiveness.
My husband’s colon cancer had spread to his liver, which we were told looked like Swiss cheese, and inoperable. After 3 months with an acupuncturist, the doctors were amazed by the improvement and resulted in being able to have ablation surgery at MGH. I believe it gave him 2 1/2 more years than doctors predicted.

1 ReactionI’m currently receiving acupuncture bi-weekly for my PN, spasms in feet and legs as well as low back pain. This is adjunct to MFR, PT and massage which I’m currently receiving also. It has helped calm down my leg and foot issues which become worse in cooler weather.
Hi! Wondering if leg, foot cramping , which are additional concerns, are helped with acupuncture , PT ….!

I find it effective for my numb feet and ankles. Also, back pain. My practitioner said it can strengthen my immune system, but I cannot say I have observed that effect. Massage and PT and also stretching at home and using self massage techniques like a roller or massage device really helps.
