Hi all, I've stumbled on this forum researching for my procedure, and here is my (gladly uneventful) story so far. Please excuse any mistakes, English is not my first language.
Starting with the burning question, according to my urologist/surgeon, I should wait 4 weeks after surgery to resume sexual activity. He also advised that it could sting a little, and to expect a somewhat rosy tint, since I would still have some blood in the vessels. And since I'm still on Tansolosin, I could also have retrograde ejaculation.
I'm 54, 5'11", 270 pounds, and starting having a higher voiding frequency about 7-8 years ago. Did some exams, and the doctor confirmed an early case of BPH. Eventually started on Tansolosin about 4 years ago, side effects on my case were a running nose and RE about 10% of the time.
I've also had 3 UTI's on the last 4 years (which I only had once until them, when I was 12) and after the last one, in June 2025, I've decided to get the surgery. I was voiding every 2 hours, it was really impacting my quality of life. On my last ultrasound, on October 2024, my prostate size was about 100 ml, but it had grown a bit since them.
Everything went fine, I did the procedure about noon on Saturday, the 27h of September, and I've stayed on the hospital until noon Monday, the 29th of September. They used two tandem 3L saline bags for bladder irrigation, I've must gone trough 12 pairs... Mid Monday morning, they removed the Foley catheter, and after drinking 3L of water, I voided like a champion, it really surprised me with the flow and pressure. After that, the doctor signed my release and I've gone home, with the recommendation of not doing heavy exercises, weight lifting, for 10 days.
Everything went fine, took mild pain killers during six days (ibuprofen), and antibiotics during 8 days, had some burning sensation voiding the first week, and still some visible blood and small clots on the urine ... after a week or so I had an erection, and they are good and strong, but I'm taking doctors orders and staying put... not very pleasant, but that's life.
Almost three weeks after the procedure, voiding frequency is improving, I'm now at 3-4 hours intervals, still have some blood on starting, and according to my doctor, it will take some more weeks to get everything OK. I'm now good for getting back on exercises (which in my case are daily walks, nothing heavy... ), but to avoid things like riding bikes or horses, anything that would put higher pressure on the lower end.
A big thanks to everybody who shared their story and I wish a full recovery to us all.
