I have had UC for 24 years and only have used asacol and then generic mesalamine (Apriso) due to insurance company request. My GI doctor has said that my inflammation has increased and thinks my mesalamine is no longer working for me. My calprotectin, fecal test that was recently done went from 421 ug/h in April to 1,268 ug/h in September. I do not have any pain an my stools are only occasionally loose. My doctor keeps talking about going on biologics but I feel there must be some other options that are not as extreme. Advice please.

@samon42 - hello, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I wanted to let you know I moved your post here so that you could chat with other members in an existing discussion about ulcerative colitis and medications.

Please meet @eszymanek @irisjolie @lacy2 and others in this discussion. Now that your doctor thinks mesalamine is no longer working for you and is talking about biologics, perhaps other members here can add more options from their own experiences. What direction would you consider if mesalamine stopped decreasing your inflammation?
