Which is the best statin to lower cholesterol

I was taking Simvastatin for many years prescribed by my GP. Eventually I developed peripheral neuropathy, which I later found was a well known risk. My GP took me off Simvastatin. I am disappointed that my GP ,he should have been aware of the connection and took the necessary steps. I was subsequently put on another statin , Atorvastin, without any discussion or inputs from me. I have since found that there are far better alternatives available. My GP seems to unaware of what is available. Can anyone advise me. My cholesterol is creeping up

@bigjohnscho Have you noticed any decrease/improvement in your neuropathy since being put on Atorvastatin? I was put on it about a year ago. A while after that I began to notice symptoms of PN. Pain, burning, and tingling. The symptoms have steadily gotten worse. If stopping this statin would help reduce my symptoms, I would do it in a heartbeat. Hope you begin to feel better.

@bigjohnscho, I combined your discussion with a previous discussion of yours titled:

Hello,
I’m so sorry about what’s going on with you and I can definitely sympathize as I went through the same thing.
After many years on statins, my current primary care physician switched me to a non statin for cholesterol. I see my doctor this Thursday for a lipid panel test to see how the medication is working.
If you’re going back to the same doctor, I suggest you ask about non statin medications to control your cholesterol.
Take care and I wish you the best,
gus
