I'm a retired periodontist with cicatricial pemphigus which cases some pretty nasty oral ulcerations. I am currently using a DMSO rinse as follows: I part DMSO, 2 parts distilled water and 1 part Peroxyl mouthwash. Rinse for 30-60 seconds, expectorate. Rinse with water afterwards. 2-3 times daily. It has reduced the pain significantly. I have treated many patients in the past with lichen planus and conventional treatments are minimally effective at best. This is what I am currently using personally and if I were still in practice I think I would at least recommend considering this approach for ANY ulcerative intraoral problems. A bit controversial with some potential side effects. I suggest some simple research on the use of DMSO and see what you think,

Hello.. I have suffered with OLP for a few yrs with little relief but the pain comes and goes! Right now, I’m in severe pain on one inside cheek & can’t eat, drink or sleep! I noticed your suggestion to try DMSO mixed with water & mouthwash. I ordered this without research & now concerned about testing with all the warnings out there! Can you provide a little more direction on how exactly to mix, store etc? I need relief but at same time I’m on an antibiotic for strep & have IBS issues so don’t want to create more issues in my body!

Any advice is appreciated! I’m very desperate.

Thank you!
