I was born with migrains (as my Father and his mother before him). And my mother took me to a lot of drs tofigure it out. Finally an allergist did and pronouced it a histamine senstativity. I spent that summer getting increasing strengths of histamine to build up my tolerance. That fixed my migrains until I got my menses and estrogen came into play. I had to deal with the headaches until, years later, I was put on HRT and they were a thing of the past. But that is a risk factor for breast cancer (which I have) and now I am on a calcium channel blocker. Works!

@suetex I’m so sorry you’ve had to endure so many years of migraines, especially while also going through breast cancer. I can only imagine how difficult that must have been. I truly hope you’re doing well now. ❤️

Thank you so much for sharing your experience—it really gave me hope. I’ve now made two appointments: one with an allergist I found through Tracy’s comment below, and another with a neurologist at Einstein/Montefiore who specializes in hormones.

I’ve had nocturnal migraines for 14 years. They wake me from sleep, usually between 1–5 a.m., and about 99% of my migraines happen while I’m sleeping. Sadly, none of the migraine preventives I’ve tried have helped. I also experience itching at night, and I’ve noticed that eating lower-histamine foods and taking antihistamines seem to lessen my migraines. It’s made me wonder if histamine might be part of the picture.

This all started around menopause, and I’m 68 now. I’m really hoping these consultations might finally help me connect the dots and understand what’s going on. I’ll definitely come back and share what I learn. 🙏❤️
