What is the major difference between pregabalin and gabapentin?
I have idiopathic peripheral neuropathy (diagnosed in January of this year). I was prescribed gabapentin 2-3 hours before bedtime. At this point I am at 600mg which helps while I know it's a low dose for many, at this point it's fine for me. I had not heard of pregabalin until today when I was researching info. in Pharmacy Times. I know that pregabalin is quickly absorbed while gabapentin is absorbed around 3 hours post dose. My question is: IS ANYONE ON PREGABALIN? If so, how is that working out??

Pregabalin is lyrical..
Gabalin is neurotin.
I am allergic to both of them. They have sulfate. When I do have to take a lyrica I put it in a vegetarian capsule with two Benadryl. Only when I start crying which is maybe every four to six months. There is a lot of nasty side effects with both of them including memory loss.

1 ReactionThey are both derivatives of GABA gamma-aminobutyric acid as you can tell since both have GABA in the name. I expect that differences depend upon who takes them. I had few side effects [but side effects were the same] from either one, but the GabaPentin is mild compared to PreGabalin. For me Lyrica/PreGabalin is quite effective at controlling some of the effects of diabetic neuropathy. Baclofen is also a derivative of GABA, but it works mainly as a muscle relaxant.
That explains why I am allergic to Baclofen. When I take it I feel like I have the flu. I feel awful.
Has anyone with long term (15 years for me) which has progressed from SNN in feet to now diagnosed with Large nerve Idiopathic neuropathy that involves calves had any suspicion that the Vegus Nerve might also being affected
Are you also allergic to GABA, Lyrica or GabaPentin?
Yes I can’t take either one. They break out my mouth. Plus I get blisters on my body.
@dlydailyhope I'm getting major constipation and gut motility issue on pregabalin at very low dose even 20mg at bedtime. gabapentin didn't seem to have this effect at 50 to 100mg but made me even dizzier and didn't work as well for sleep.

No, not that I'm aware of. The only side effect ftom PreGabali and GabaPentin is ED.
I am taking both gabapentin and pregabalin for neuropathy. Both are controlled psychoanalytic drugs. I am also taking medical cannabis in cooking or pill form.
Gabapentin has the absolute worst physical side effects. I have reduced from 2400 to 600mg.
Pregabalin has mental side effects that rob you of drive. But it also keeps you from going insane from pain.
Gabapentin helped curb constant 24/7 hot or freezing types of pain (3/10 scale).
Pregabalin helped curb daily shooting pains (7/10 scale), I only elevate that high once a week now.

18 years ago I was diagnosed with neuropathy. Before that I was diagnosed as RLS and ended up on Gabapentin for 3 years at a low dosage. Until recently, I had been elevated to 2400mg / day. I have substituted medical cannabis and only take 600mg / day.
Now to address your point. I have an advanced case and can guarantee to you that neuropathy does attack autonomic nerves that control functions such as blood pressure, sweating, heart rate, digestion and bladder function. I can no longer work in the sun once temperatures reach 85+ degrees. 10 minutes and I am drenched in eccrine sweat from the waist up and with my body turning inside out like that, I experience extreme heat stroke symptoms. Those include everything autonomic.
Anybody remember the George Carlin joke about being so sick that you say “I don’t care about my new shoes” before continuing with autonomic digestive problems?
Sounded better when he said it.
