Mattress recommendations

Hi! This is a very broad, open-ended question, but I'm hoping you might be able to help. I'm going to start looking for a new mattress for my bed because it does a horrible job at supporting my sacrum tailbone and low back. I get severe pain in those areas and having a bed where I feel like I'm constantly sinking in is not helping. I obviously want a mattress that is firmer and more supportive, but I have no idea what to try, and what to look for, and what to avoid. Is there a particular brand that really works for you, and what materials work best for pain. I currently have a twin bed, and my mattress is probably 15 years old, memory foam with gel, with the mattress topper made from those same materials.
Thanks for your suggestions! Amanda

I have neck and mid back issues. I love my temper-pedic but if you don’t like the sinking in feeling it may not be right for you. Several mattress companies have a scale of firmness and a special bed in the store to let you get a feeling for all the options before you buy.

I love the Beautyrest Black Ice mattress. This mattress is smooth on the top with no buttons. It is a dark grey
in color. If your mattress is too soft, you will hurt worse. I learned that the hard way. This mattress is medium firm and it's a memory foam. Memory foam can sleep a little warmer, but, this one does not sleep hot like other memory foam mattresses.

I have arthritis all over and other painful issues. This mattress has helped. After 5 years, there is not one
indention or sunken place in it. We bought it at Mattress Firm.

It is so hard to choose a mattress by just lying down on it for a few minutes in the store.

Wishing you the best. Blessings & Prayers.....

Hi Amanda,
I bought a new mattress two months ago and I'm so glad that I did because I fell about a month ago and this Tempo-Pedic has helped me. I am able to raise and lower it to become comfortable for a good night's sleep. My lower back and hip were so painful I could not walk without a walker. X-rays reveal no fractures only soft tissue
injury. I am on medication and I am recovering. You can lie down on the mattresses at the store to try them out.
I think you should shop for a mattress store and go with someone to help you choose. I had a wonderful salesperson who helped me with choosing and pricing.

Hi! Thank you so much for your reply! The tempur pedic mattresses are definitely on my list to try. I remember they felt comfortable the last time I went mattress shopping YEARS ago, and I really like them. I decided against getting one because of the price, but right now I'd pay a million dollars for just the right mattress.
Thanks again for the tip and I'm glad your mattress brought you relief.

Hey Amanda! I buy from Costco, whenever possible. That’s just how I roll! Like their products and love their return policy. I have bought several mattresses from them and it is so easy to return if they don’t work out.
They show up vacuum sealed in a tight roll, and then I open it up and expands.
Best,
Sherry

I bought a sleep number bed. I can raise the head and feet. The other nice thing you can replace the foam and motors.. I bought the bed in 2010 because I had a hip replacement and an actebulum fracture ended up with an ORIF. I could feel the springs and it hurt bad. The doctor wrote me a prescription so I didn’t have to pay taxes.

I bought a mattress to be suitable for spinal pain called Hard Bed. It came from Calgary Alberta. My husband needed a 2” mattress topper as the bed is so hard. I have been getting used to it. I slept on a thin foam on the floor for 15 years and it made a big difference. But my knees are quite painful so this is better. Hope you get the firmest mattress you can stand.

I think a mattress is a very personal to each person. I will say my frame can elevate my head and my legs and having that is what really helps me a great deal.
I always pick a mattress that has a 90 day trial and or a small restock fee if it doesn’t work out. The frame is so important. I need the elevation of both my head and legs so I recommend that as a must. Best of luck. Laying on it for 15 minutes inna store really doesn’t help much.

@artemis1886 I have a terrible back and arthritis and I find the air mattress with an adjustable base helps me a lot. I don’t sleep well so the investment was worth it for me. Sweet dreams.
